Word of mouth is the best form of advertising!

February 17, 2010 Advice for photographers 1 Comment

The following post was very kindly written by Sarah Jane of Sarah Janes Photography in North Wales.  You can view Sarah’s beautiful wedding photographs on her website at www.sarahjanesphotography.co.uk

Sarah’s raises an  excellent point in her post and one that I 100% agree with – word of mouth is always the best form of advertising available, and the best thing is, it’s free!!

Take it away, Sarah…

Word of mouth is the best advertising possible!

I think the most common question an aspiring wedding photographer will ask is “how do I let perspective clients know I exist?” My reply would be WOM!! Word of mouth is absolutely the best form of advertising; it is personal and confidence giving, not only to you but your client too.

If any media company contacts you claiming that they can get you to the top of Google or to advertise in their magazine you should ask yourself… “Should I wait for someone to tell me how to advertise my business?” I personally believe that any business that blindly buys into any kind of advertising cold calls will only be throwing money away.

Months before I set up Sarah Janes photography in December 2007, I did a free family portrait session of friends of my husband. From that one session to date I have been booked to cover four weddings, actor head shots, family portraits and I still have future portrait sessions and bumps & babies shoots coming up, just from WOM, and just from that one session.

So go and find your next walking advertising board and do not dance to any media companies tune!

Take care
Sarah Jane x
